OH MY - IT'S TIME TO APPLY!
Every January, Design39Campus (“D39C”) opens its interest list for the upcoming school year. D39C does this much earlier than other public school registrations (which typically take place in May) to make sure families don’t apply to both D39C and their “home”/regular boundaried school (check our map here for regular 92127 boundaried schools). If you have a child entering Kindergarten in the 2022-2023 school year, you want your child to go to D39C for middle school next year, or you’d like to try for one of next year’s very limited spots in 1st-5th grade, here are the steps to take NOW:
SIGN UP FOR AN INTEREST SESSION: These take place January 14th, 26th, & 28th and are either virtual or in person. You will learn a lot about the school at this meeting and will get a tour of the school as well! Just click here to sign up with the password DESIGN39draw!
FILL OUT THE INTEREST FORM: This is due by end of day on January 31st. You have to attend an information session before the school will accept this form.
PATIENTLY WAIT UNTIL MARCH: This is the hard part :). The draw takes place in March, and families are first notified at the end of March. Those families who are not offered a spot in the initial draw are placed on a wait list. Once you are notified that your child(ren) has a spot, you have 48 hours to accept it. If you decide to pass, the next family on the waitlist is then contacted. This wait list goes all the way through the end of October 2022; therefore your child may get a spot during the spring, summer, or even during the first few weeks of school.
GET YOUR ENROLLMENT DOCS READY: There are strict address requirements as it pertains to the lottery, and the school of course verifies where you live. There are other typical registration forms that you fill out during this time as well.
WHAT’S NEW WITH THE 2022/2023 LOTTERY?
There are a few new homes eligible to apply! Avion homes in Del Sur closed escrow recently, and are included in the first draw of the lottery. The first draw is for those CFD’s originally able to go the school (see our map here); approximately 85% of the seats go to families residing within them. Refer to our map for a visual guide: these areas are Del Sur, 4S Ranch, the Lakes, and Santaluz communities. The second draw is for all other Poway Unified school district homes outside of these areas/tax districts (Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Santa Fe Valley, Torrey Highlands, Rancho Penasquitos, Carmel Mountain, and others.)
Due to the coronavirus, there are some students who are currently not physically going to school at D39C, but whose spots are held for them. These include approximately 40 children attending New Directions, Connect Academy, and Independent study
WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF GETTING IN?
Great question. This changes every year. Though current families have until the end of April to let D39C know if their currently enrolled students are returning, there are usually about 2-3 seats per grade level available in 1st-5th grades. Middle school is usually more open, since it is a natural transition period where certain children go to Oak Valley Middle School or to private school. Kindergarten has the most seats available, as only current TK students and siblings have priority over new students.
WHAT IF YOU DON’T CURRENTLY LIVE IN PUSD?
This is where we come in! If you are in contract to purchase new construction, you merely need to give the school your purchase agreement, followed by an official bill with your new address 30 days after escrow closes. If you rent, a lease will suffice. Most risky but still doable, if you plan to purchase a home in one of the original CFD’s by April, you can apply, and, if you are not in escrow by the time your registration appointment is, you will not be allowed to keep your spot. We have helped MANY families move specifically to have the best chance to get into D39C and have even helped one family buy a home in 4 days when they needed to meet a deadline!
